ABOUT

Pioneering model in Greater Manchester and the UK

Stockport Town Centre Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) is a statutory body designed to speed up development and attract investment. Stockport MDC is the delivery vehicle for Stockport Council, ensuring its ambitious vision for the regeneration of the town centre comes to life. Backed by mayoral leadership and cross-party political commitment, Stockport’s regeneration benefits from longstanding certainty that transcends political cycles. As a single, accountable delivery body bringing together land, planning and investment decisions, Stockport MDC provides clarity, pace and confidence, creating the conditions for sustained private investment and successful regeneration at scale.

OUR STORY

UK-first expansion and town centre MDC

When the MDC was launched in 2019, Stockport became the first place in Greater Manchester, and one of the first in the UK, to have an MDC driving its regeneration. The MDC brings together the powers of Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham, the strong local leadership of Stockport Council, and the long‑term commitment of Homes England. In 2026, we became the first MDC to expand its boundary, and the first to cover an entire town centre. Our brownfield-first, partnership led model has become a blueprint for urban renewal in the UK, and following our success, MDCs are being rolled out across Greater Manchester.

Our Board

The MDC Board brings together senior leaders from the private and public sectors to guide our work and champion Stockport’s long‑term ambitions. Its members include experts in major regeneration alongside representatives from Stockport Council, Homes England and Greater Manchester Combined Authority. With inherent experience and strong local commitment, the Board provides the leadership, insight and accountability needed to drive forward our programme to ensure the MDC delivers for Stockport.
