Overview

Rise Homes’ Mailbox development has taken a long-neglected former Royal Mail Sorting Office in the heart of Stockport town centre and creatively redeveloped it as 117 new apartments for private rent along with flexible workspace and a glass fronted restaurant unit on the ground floor. The redevelopment is a massive vote of confidence in Stockport town centre as a place to live and provides a completely new residential offer.

About the development

Rise Homes have made innovative use of the space at the former Stockport sorting office (originally built to be capable of surviving a bomb) completely overhauling the floor-plan with corner aspect bedrooms now sited in former stairwells. The Mailbox also features an impressive communal atrium and rooftop garden for residents. The 18-metre high living wall is the largest of its kind by surface area in the North of England. Tenants can even keep pets, subject to interview.

Vision

The commercial space spans two units at street level – a larger two-storey space and a self-contained unit with glass front onto the A6 suitable as a restaurant or retail space.The residential scheme is being aimed at young professionals, offering more space and competitive rent compared with comparable developments in Manchester City Centre, but with the same connectivity: The Mailbox is just a 2-minute walk to both the train and bus stations.
